Tibetan Lands

Part of the People´s Republic of China, the Tibetan plateau rises formidably to the north on the other side of the massive Himalayas. Here are some of the country´s hardiest people - nomads, yak herders, salt traders, monks, nuns, and barley farmers. Huge monasteries rise up from the cliffs or perch on the tops of hills, Khampa horsemen celebrate festivals of skill and daring, and pilgrims walk to holy koras around sacred peaks such as Kailas or Kawakarpo. Trek to Everest Base Camp, wander the lands of the Golak and Aba tribes, take a boat ride to Tibet´s first monastery, circumambulate Mt.
