As you know, at Myths and Mountains, we care strongly about each of the countries in which we work. In 1991, we created a non-profit organization called READ (Rural Education and Development). READ builds self-sustaining community centers in Nepal, India, and Bhutan with village libraries at the heart, and disseminates this community empowerment strategy to other nations and communities around the globe. READ also trains librarians and builds sustaining projects to support the libraries after completion. These projects run the gamut from furniture factories, ambulance services, even mills to grind wheat, soy and millet. The READ program brings the gift of literacy to the children and people of Nepal, India, and Bhutan. As a corporate sponsor of READ, Myths and Mountains contributes a portion of our profit to READ on behalf of our travelers
