Vacation and Volunteer On Myths and Mountains Galapagos Adventure
Cruise in the Galapagos. then share your skills with the locals.
INCLINE VILLAGE, NV (January 2007)—Travelers can blend vacation and vocation in the Galapagos through a unique collaboration between Myths and Mountains cultural travel company and a Galapagos nonprofit agency.
First participants enjoy a cruise among the glorious Ecuadorian islands, home to some of the world’s most fascinating wildlife. Then they can choose to help out at the health clinic, tutor children in English or teach basic computer skills at a newly-built lab. Vacation volunteers are based in Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island, where the Charles Darwin Research Station is located.
“This program offers an opportunity to relax as well as make a contribution,” said Allie Almario, Myths and Mountains vice president and Board member of the International Galapagos Tour Operators Association. “Just a few days of sharing one’s expertise can make an enormous difference in the lives of the locals.”
Professionals in the fields of medicine, education and computer sciences are especially valuable, noted Ms. Almario.
Volunteer vacation adventures in the Galapagos run 9 days, 8 nights; the cost begins at $3,595 per person. Quito/Galapagos roundtrip airfare is included. Custom dates are available year-round.
The price for every Myths and Mountains journey includes a comprehensive travel insurance policy and a $50 donation to READ Global to support educational, economic and community development in rural communities around the world. READ Nepal, a project of READ Global, is the 2006 recipient of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Access to Learning Award.
