The trek to Chomolhari is a sacred trek. In Bhutan, people look at the mountains as some sort of divine power. In Bhutanese, Chomolhari is pronounced Jumolhari and means the heavenly deity of animals. The nomads in that region will not allow any climbing on that mountain. They believe that the deity could be upset and their yaks, sheep and other livestock might perish. We recommend this trek for alpine flower lovers in the months of June to August. The only disadvantage is some mountain rain. By the 2nd week of July, the monsoon catch up on the mountains and the rain will become heavy and can be miserable. On this spring trek, however, travelers can enjoy the fascinating Paro Festival before heading out into the mountains. The festival celebrates spring in Bhutan, as well as Guru Rimpoche, the teacher who brought Buddhism to Bhutan.
